About Jill

Jill Dzadey

I'm a Melbourne based, qualified couple counsellor. Relationships are the foundation of what I do and bringing freedom to your relationship is my passion.

Relationships are complicated... but I am here if you get stuck.

I see couples and individuals for a range of presenting issues of which pregnancy loss, trauma, sexual intimacy and young families have a special place in my heart.

A little extra about me; I am Zambian born, wife and mum of two amazing little people.

Freedom Couple Counselling is a specialist practice focused on the specific needs of couples experiencing relationship stress.

Freedom Couple Counselling was created to help you to build a better relationship between you and your partner, in an open, honest, and safe environment.

Freedom Couple Counselling can help you understand each other better, recognise your strengths, and break free of old patterns to communicate more effectively and resolve conflict.

At Freedom Couple Counselling, you can expect clients’ needs, desires, and goals are of utmost importance. You can expect research-based counselling methods, education and tools to support your growth, and collaborative engagement as we work together to identify and overcome challenges.

Experience and training
Jill has worked in both private and public sectors with diverse types of couples helping to foster more desirable and satisfying relationships. Couples have included same and opposite-sex couples, young couples, couples who are pregnant, couples in business, and inter-cultural couples. Jill also works with the media, and has expert advice for articles published by ABC Everyday and appeared on the Triple J radio show "The Hook Up" (articles can be found here).

Jill’s services include both short term (pre-marriage counselling, specific therapy needs) and long-term treatment for couples experiencing a range of relationship problems including communication issues, difficulty managing conflict, pregnancy loss, and infidelity.

In couples therapy, Jill has helped her clients with issues which have caused damage, including secrets such as infidelity. She also has experience with couples stuck in conflict; those with mental health issues; couples stressed by life transitions, financial challenges, parenting differences, lifestyle changes; and those with conflicts in the extended family.

Jill has a masters in couples counselling and has experience using Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy, Gottman Method, and Schema Therapy for couples. These therapy approaches help couples become more aware of your problems, reduce your reactions to one another, and help you to resolve differences. The goal is to help you connect more deeply with one another so you can have a fulfilling relationship.

My Approach

You will find that my style is non-judgemental, approachable and I provide a safe space for you and your partner to be completely who you are; supporting you from wherever you are in your couple journey. I welcome clients from all backgrounds, cultures and beliefs.

In our sessions, we will use a variety of approaches to understand your presenting issues. I can address why you may feel psychologically, emotionally and spiritually out of alignment. I can help you learn how to communicate effectively and listen to and respect each other’s needs.

Regardless of how much pain you are in and how troubled your relationship is, as your couples counsellor, I am committed to helping you improve your relationship. I can help you to resolve past experiences of hurts and find ways to forgive each other, reconnect more deeply and feel closer.

Focusing on your relationship as-a-whole as well as the growth that needs to occur within yourselves, leads to deeper and lasting change.

Through marriage counselling, you’ll give yourself the opportunity to get much more out of your relationship and your life; the opportunity for a more fulfilling future together. You will have more fun together, feel more confident about planning your future together, and achieve a more satisfying sex life where you both feel fulfilled.
